No. 1 for St Albans!

Anthony Rowlands

Home

The next General Election presents an historic opportunity for the Liberal Democrats to win St Albans. With Labour in retreat, we are the challengers to the Tory incumbent. We have an able and successful local authority presence. Nationally, we are now carving out a distinctive programme under firmer leadership.

Winning St Albans will require experience, effective leadership and a willingness to innovate.

I have served St Albans on both the District and County Councils. I have fought two high profile parliamentary contests including, in 2005, on my native Isle of Wight. Since then, I have returned to St Albans and the District Council, defeating a leading Labour councillor last May.

With over twenty years political activity in St Albans, there is hardly a road I have not canvassed or delivered! My wife, Harriet, has taught in two St Albans comprehensive schools. Our children attended local state schools. We both have a record of active involvement in many local organisations. Strong community connections provide a vital building block for a successful Liberal Democrat campaign.

As a former parliamentary candidate and District Council Group Leader, I know that effective political leadership requires a sure grasp of local issues, an understanding of new campaigning techniques and a confident public presence.

Being your candidate will demand tireless commitment combined with a ready awareness and appreciation of members’ hard work for the party and our local communities.

For the past 6 years I have worked in a senior capacity at the independent liberal think-tank, CentreForum. This brings me into regular contact with key political figures. New thinking is vital but has value only when related to people’s everyday lives. That is why I sought re-election back to the District Council.

As an experienced politician, I offer a proven ability to inspire volunteers, a strong national profile and total dedication to the goal of St Albans electing a Liberal Democrat MP.

Yours sincerely

Anthony Rowlands

The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
